The beauty of Madara Plateau, by Kaloyan Zhivkov

Dear visitors of Shumen region, if you want a truly mystical and breathtaking experience, off- the -beaten track, you should visit the Madara Plateau. Apart from the Madara rider, there are many other landmarks to see. Welcome the clean air and breathtaking views, put on your hiking shoes and thick jacket and off we go!

You can begin from the parking lot at the Madara rider ticket cashier, or you can go on foot from Madara railway station. Take the Madara eco route, and you will see the beautiful rocks “Samotnitsata” (Lonely girl), caves “Tamnata dupka” (The dark hole), Dyado Dimovata (Grandpa Dimio’s cave) and the Dry waterfall. The path goes to Madara Fortress.

Now you have 2 options:

Either you go down the steps that are carved into the rock (please be careful!) and reach Madara rider,

or, you continue through the Secret Pathway (Taynata pateka) that leads to Kyulevcha village and passes through the special rock forms, most interesting of which is the Phalos. (falosa)
