Festive program for Shumen’s Day – May 11

The month of May is traditionally saturated with many festive cultural events in Shumen. More than two centuries ago, in the distant year 1813, on the eve of the church holiday of the Holy equal apostles Cyril and Methodius, the first civil celebration of the holy brothers was organized in Shumen. And it is not by chance that the people of Shumen choose May 11 as their holiday. It is connected with the respect for the work of the Slavic first teachers, with the traditions of the city and with the attitude of the Shumen public towards education and spirituality.

Festive events for Shumen’s Day start earlier. At the invitation of the Shumen Municipality, on May 8, Monday, at 6:30 p.m., the play “Birds in the Shadow of the Fire” will be presented on the stage of the “Vasil Drumev” Drama and Puppet Theater. The author and director is Clara Armandova, who we remember as an actress in the past, and after her return to her homeland, viewers will see her as a brilliant director. Entrance is free and the municipal administration invites residents of Shumen to enjoy the wonderful performance of the young actors Anastasia Levordashka, Lili Sucheva, Filip Gulyashki, Vladimir Bogdanov and the musician Angel Chavdarov.

In 2023, it will be 210 years since the first civil celebration of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, and the festive day will begin with a liturgy in the Church of the Holy Ascension. After her, at 10:30 a.m., a lithium procession will leave from there, which will continue to the Shumen Municipality building. It will be accompanied by a specially prepared show about letters and literature. The solemn session of the Municipal Council is at 11.45. Then the arts and culture awards will be presented. For the eighth year in a row, a spelling and calligraphy competition is held on this day at the initiative of the Second Primary School “Dr. Peter Beron” in Shumen. The winners will be awarded at 18:00 in front of the Freedom Monument next to the Municipality. The celebration for the children of Shumen will continue with animation, fun games, quizzes and lots of dancing. At 18.
