National Student Literary Competition “Boyan Penev”

The national student literary competition “Boyan Penev” will be held on May 19, 20 and 21, 2023. The organizers of the oldest literary competition for students are Shumen University “Bishop Konstantin Preslavski” and Shumen Municipality. The opening of the 45th edition is on May 19 at 1:00 p.m. in front of the Rectory.

According to the regulation, only students and doctoral students from Bulgarian higher education institutions can participate with works in three fields – poetry, fiction and criticism (publicism and journalism). Zahari Karabashliev, Petar Chuhov and Prof. Plamen Doinov are also on the jury this year.

In the accompanying program, the participants will visit a screening of the Bulgarian film “Shakespeare as a Street Dog” and will meet part of the team. Presentation of two new books is planned – “X-ray picture of freedom” by Michaela Ilieva and “Silence is a sleeping beauty” by Petar Chuhov. A photo exhibition will also be opened.

Traditionally, the contest will end with a discussion with the jury members in Studio 3 of BNR-Radio Shumen. The awarding of the laureates is on May 21 at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Ivan Peychev monument.

The grand prize of the Competition is provided by the Municipality of Shumen and is the publication of a book by a student author.
