Over 13 thousand tourists have visited the monument “Founders of the Bulgarian State”

Memorial complex “Founders of the Bulgarian State” in Shumen reported an increased number of tourists as of 31.07.2022 compared to the previous year. The registered visitors for the first 7 months are 13,339.

Thanks to the “Together Again” program, student tourism also develops during the holiday months of July and August. The number of individual family visits by foreign tourists from Romania, Turkey and Greece has also increased. After the fall of the covid restrictions, there is again a revival of tourist interest in Israel and France to the monument. And this season, the price of the ticket has been preserved – BGN 4 (adults) and BGN 1.50 (students and pensioners).

Memorial complex “Founders of the Bulgarian State” in Shumen is the most impressive and majestic monument in Bulgaria. To this day, it is unparalleled in Europe. 1,300 steps, combined with 13 water cascades, lead visitors to the city of Shumen to the largest monument on the Balkan Peninsula. It is located on the territory of the “Shumensko Plateau” Nature Park and is located 6 km from the city. It rises 450 m above sea level, on the hill of Ilchov Bair. Its silhouette is visible in a radius of 30 kilometers and attracts the eyes of travelers to Sofia, Varna, Ruse, Burgas and Silistra.

A curious fact is that a capsule with a message to future generations is buried in the foundations of the monument. You can see a copy of it in the permanent exhibition “Monumental Bulgarian art in the last three decades of the 20th century”, which is located in one of the halls of the Information Center near the monument.

For 40 years now, the monument has towered over Shumen and focused the talent of the authors and all the thousands of builders. It is a symbol that has carried the undying glory of the First Bulgarian State into our modern times.

Don’t miss to visit the town of Shumen and the “Founders of the Bulgarian State” memorial complex.
