Pliska celebrates an anniversary of the Christianization

On 28th March, there will be religious and historical celebration of the anniversary of the Christianization of Bulgaria.

Tzar Boris I decided that the Bulgarian nation must accept the Christian religion in the years 864-865.

Following this decision, a huge process of compulsory baptism begun and it wasn’t without riots.

The programme this year begins with a church mass in the church “St Tzar Boris I – Michail” at 7:00h.

Then, at 9:00 h, there will be a procession, starting from the Eastern gate of the fortress towards the great Basilica.
