The house where Panayot Volov – one of the most inspiring heroes of the Bulgarian National revolution, the apostle of the April Uprising, has been turned into a museum. Today it’s the oldest, best-preserved house in Shumen from the end of the 18th c. Authentic materials recreate the atmosphere of the early life of the hero, born in the autumn of 1850. The picturesque yard and the green, two hundred years old walnut tree keep the spirit of the Revival.
In the exposition hall, by means of a wide range of materials and documentaries, a detailed description of his life as a public figure, community center worker, a theater lover, teacher and director of the Shumen School for boys is shown. The exposition focuses on the April epic and Volov’s activity as a main apostle of the 4th Panagyurishte Revolutionary region. In a special glass-case can be seen Volov’s rifle which he used to signal the start of the revolt of April 20th 1878 in Panagyurishte.
