The composer, the pianist, the teacher Pancho Vladigerov is one of the most prominent figures of the Bulgarian music culture. On the formerly called Arasta street (present day “Tzar Osvoboditel) is the only one in Bulgaria Museum complex devoted to music and his personality and works. It consists of two separate museum expositions, a temporary exhibitions hall, and a chamber music hall.
The Pancho Vladigerov exposition occupies Alexander and Pavla Zhekovs’ home. It was where the six-year-old future world-famous composer had his first piano lessons. The exposition “Musical activities in Shumen” is on display in the house of the famous Shumen family of Kardjievs. It represents the history of music in Shumen from the establishment of the first Bulgarian orchestra for European music in 1850, till today’s distinguished performers.
