A three-day spring tour around Shumen region

Spring is coming and people start moving around! Prepare yourself for a three-day tour around the nature and history of our region, suitable for longer and warmer days. This route is just an example.

Day 1-Shumen and the nature areas around the town:

  • A visit to the Memorial Complex “Founders of the Bulgarian State”-enjoy your time outdoors and see the beautiful green meadows with flowers.
  • A visit to Shumen fortress- there you can combine time outdoors with a visit to the remains of old Medieval fortress
  • Relax and have a cup of coffee in the Old Shumen area- you can visit Srebrov’s house, the bonsai garden and all the Enlightenment houses (Pancho Vladigerov’s House, Dobry Voynikov’s house, Panayot Volov’s house) in the area.
  • Bonus plases-Tombul Mosque- the biggest mosque in the area, second biggest in Bulgaria; Avsharyan house- a three-floor beautiful Enlightenment house, very near to the mosque; Kyoshkove nature park- an amazing place to walk and enjoy the leafy environment; the History museum- you can learn so much about the ancient Bulgarian history.

Day 2: Shumen Plateau and Veliki Preslav region

  • Go to Osmar village by car or by bus- take a bus from the bus stop next to Voyage bar and restaurant: https://maps.app.goo.gl/bM1ztkTXeZgcyWwz8 Shumen- Osmar 8:00 and 13:30; Osmar-Shumen 9:00, 14:00 and 18:00 from the village center. You can see the most beautiful village houses in the area and take the 3 km route to Kostadinovo monastery and “Okoto” rock relief (see the picture above). It is a very beautiful and a high energy zone.
  • Go to Preslav National and Archeological Reserve-the remains of the second Bulgarian capital. The best time is in May when you can see the blooming carob trees.
  • Have lunch in “Omurtagov most” restaurant or in Veliki Preslav- “Fontanite” restaurant.
  • Bonus places: Khan Krum rock monastery and Patleyna monastery.

Day 3: Madara

  • See the Madara Horseman-the global symbol of Bulgaria, carved into the rock, the ancient pagan ritual place “Kapishte”-one of the most high energy places in Bulgaria, climb the stairs to the Madara fortress and see Shumen and Shumen plateau from a bird’s eye.
  • Visit Pliska National and Archaelogical Reserve-the remains of the first Bulgarian capital.
  • Visit Tsarev brod winery and try their home-made one-of -a- kind special Bulgarian wine “Gergana”
  • Bonus places: Catholic Monastery in Tsarev Brod, Sharlaka waterfall near Mogila village, Kireka rock tombs
